Limited places are available on the West of Scotland Kyudo Society’s Beginners Kyudo Course being held in Edinburgh starting Sunday 25th September 2016. Registration forms and information packs have been sent out in response to requests.

We encourage for registration forms to be sent to us soon as possible to avoid disappointment. Applicants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Four members recently attended the International Kyudo Federation (IKYF) Seminar and Shinsa in Amsterdam, the Netherlands hosted by Kyudo Renmei Nederland. This year also marked the 10th anniversary of the IKYF.
Seminar participants had intensive kyudo training over three days with four sensei coming from Japan to oversee instruction. After the seminar, a Shinsa (exam) took place on Friday 29th July 2016 in Sporthallen Zuid for 3rd and 4th dan gradings.
Two members of the West of Scotland Kyudo Society were successful in their exam for 3rd dan. Shinsa for both 3rd and 4th dan saw over 100 examinees for each grade with Kyudo practitioners coming from all over Europe.
Two members from the West of Scotland Kyudo Society attended the 5th Asia-Oceania Seminar in Nagoya, Japan. The seminar had attendees from all over the world with many from the Americas and Europe. After the seminar, shinsa (exams) were held to grade from shodan (1st dan) to rokudan (6th dan). There was also a test to become renshi (instructor).
One WSKS member passed the shinsa (exam) for 3rd dan.
An announcement was made by the International Kyudo Federation for the next Asia-Oceania Seminar to be held in New Zealand in 2017.
The seminar was a great experience for participants and a wonderful chance to meet old and new friends. Instruction was well received by Sensei and there were plenty of opportunities to practise in the beautiful dojo at Nippongaishi Sports Plaza Kyudojo in Nagoya. At the conclusion of the final day of the seminar, participants attended a reception and were able to meet other Kyudo practitioners.
Despite the first day having quite a bit of windy weather, conditions later improved during the last two days of the seminar and shinsa where the pleasant breeze and sunshine created a wonderful atmosphere. WSKS members were extremely appreciative and happy to be able to practise Kyudo in a friendly and beautiful environment and thankful for all of the helpful Kyudo guidance, instruction and advice from Sensei.

Members from both WSKS and the Manchester Kyudo Group had fun at a Noshakai, the final Kyudo practice of the year. Activities included games such as a team competition and shooting at festive targets. There was also some tasty homemade treats prepared by WSKS members and friends to ensure everyone did not finished off the practice hungry.
All of us at WSKS wish you all a wonderful new year. We also look forward to welcoming new beginners who will join us in 2016.
WSKS is currenly on break from 27th December 2015 – 9th January 2016. Practices will resume 10th January 2016 with the Hatsushakai, the first Kyudo practice of the year. Remember to send us an email if you are interested in learning more about Kyudo! The start of the new year is a great time as any to start a new activity.

Three members of the West of Scotland Kyudo Society attended the International Kyudo Federation seminar and shinsa (exam) in Magglingen, Switzerland. This consisted of three full days of intensive kyudo training with practitioners from Europe and as far as Brazil with the last day being the shinsa.
Congratulations to two WSKS members who were recently awarded 2nd dan on Tuesday 14th July 2015.
The society is on summer holiday. Kyudo practices are currently off through the end of July and will continue again at Prestwick from early August. Please check our schedule late July for details.
Glasgow – future practices
We will be taking a break from having practices in Glasgow for the summer. Depending on interest and demand, we may hold beginners courses in the autumn for those who are interested. Please email us at westofscotlandkyudo@gmail.com to register your interest.
Kyudo in Edinburgh
We have recently had enquiries for Kyudo in Edinburgh. We are currently gathering interest – please email us if you are interested.
Many thanks to all who participated in our Beginners Kyudo Course A/B in January and February. We are happy to announce that our practices will continue at Partick Burgh Hall through June 2015.
Although we are not holding another beginners course at this time, we strongly encourage anyone interested in Kyudo to come and observe a practice. Please check our schedule from the menu above and send us an email to arrange.
