Next Kyudo beginners intake – September dates

Our next beginners intake has been decided for both practices:

  • Prestwick Academy: Sunday 23rd September 2018
  • St Kentigern’s Academy: Wednesday 19th September 2018

All enquiring beginners are required to observe a Kyudo practice in Prestwick or our upcoming Kyudo demonstration at Cowden Japanese Summer Festival on Saturday 1st September or Sunday 2nd September before joining our beginners Kyudo sessions. Please email the Secretary to arrange a time to visit one of the practices on our practice calendar.

Next beginner intake: January 2018

Thank you to all who have contacted the West of Scotland Kyudo Society with an interest in learning Kyudo. We have started our new beginners on Sunday 10th September 2017 and unfortunately are not accepting new beginners at this time.

We will start accepting new beginners interested in learning Kyudo from January 2018. To be notified of when we will start beginners intake, please request to be put on our mailing list by emailing westofscotlandkyudo@gmail.com

Before commiting to learning Kyudo, we strongly advise first observing a Kyudo practice in Prestwick. We welcome observers at Prestwick practices all year round through prior arrangement by email. Please be advised that our practices in Edinburgh are not standalone practices and are meant to complement our full distance dojo practice in Prestwick.

For further instruction and grading opportunities, travel outside of Scotland will be required. For more information or further enquiries, please contact the Secretary by email.

Three WSKS members pass grading exams at IKYF Telford shinsa

Four members from the West of Scotland Kyudo Society attended the International Kyudo Federation European seminar and shinsa (examination) in Telford, UK this July. WSKS is happy to announce that three members were successfully passed their shinsa, with one new 2nd dan, one 3rd dan and one 4th dan. Congratulations!

Members received intensive instruction from highly graded Sensei from Japan and had the opportunity to meet with attendees who have travelled from as far as Taiwan and the United States.

Three WSKS members also volunteered to work as staff during the course of the European Seminar. The Society is thankful to the United Kingdom Kyudo Association, the European Kyudo Federation, the IKYF and most especially to all the participants and attendees who made the event possible.

A new year: Kyudo in Edinburgh

Happy New Year to all from everyone at the West of Scotland Kyudo Society.

Our group has had quite the busy year having recently completed our Beginners Kyudo Course in Edinburgh at the end of November, our end of the year practice and now having recently started our practices for the new year: 2017. We would like to thank the Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation and a big thank you to those who have participated in our course.

We are happy to announce that we are holding makiwara practices in Edinburgh starting Wednesday 25th January 2017. Those interested in Kyudo in Edinburgh are welcome to observe a Kyudo practice by prior arrangement. Please note that while we are happy to welcome observers, we also need to ensure that our current learners are accommodated due to limited space. We may therefore request for you to observe on a future date to accommodate everyone comfortably.

Please contact us at westofscotlandkyudo@gmail.com if you are interested in observing a Kyudo practice in Edinburgh.
